What’s the inspiration behind the name JazLabs and what is the vision for jazlabs?

There are two key components at the core of the name:

Jaz:

derived from Jazz. Ask 100 different people, “What is jazz?” and you’re likely to get 100 different answers. If you know the founder of our company or talk with him, you’d hear that he has been a life-long fan and devotee of Jazz, starting when he was eight years old. For him, jazz is a living art form, ever changing and ever growing, and this art form provides the perfect model for a new 21st century creative business.  As Wynton Marsalis says, “the real power of Jazz … is that a group of people can come together and create … improvised art and negotiate their agendas … and that negotiation is the art.”

This is the inspiration and vision for jazlabs where the spark of an idea can form, grow, evolve, mutate and expand as a collective improvisation – with passion, newness, energy, inspiration and emotion – drawing from life experience and human emotion.
Labs:

We’re a laboratory (or more precisely a collaboratory, using a term from Dave Gray) focused on experimentation, exploration and discovery of big ideas at the intersection of a) business, b) technology, c) markets, d) people and e) community.  We provide an open environment where ideas can be prototyped, built and brought to market in a nimble, rapid way.

Hence, the birth of JazLabs!  A vehicle for innovation, improvisation, listening, collaboration, experimentation, prototyping, learning, evolution and ultimately, the creation, nurturing, exploration and delivery of life-changing products, services and experiences … an interconnected, living and breathing ecosystem at the intersection of business, technology, markets, people and community, focused on teasing out big ideas and bringing them successfully to market in a dynamic, rapid, nimble, open, collaborative way.
